Katy Perry..........................Katy Perry original name Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson, (born October 25 1984 Santa Barbara California U.S.) American pop singer who gained fame for a string of anthemic and often sexually suggestive hit songs as well as for a playfully cartoonish sense of style. Perry's early attempts at becoming popular were not successful. Two different record labels signed her and then removed her from the market before she'd made any music. Capitol Records however released Perry's EP Ur So Gay in 2007. The title song was a fun and playful song that attracted minimal attention. Perry made more of a splash a few months later, with the single I kissed a Girl an assertive ode to sexual desire backed by a sharp electronic-pop beat. I Kissed a Girls was an immediate hit, however it soon sparked controversy. Critics argued that it was a promotion of sexual relations between men and women, while others said the scenario which was depicted on the album appealed more to male fantasies. Nevertheless the combination of sensuality and polished music contributed to the fact that I Kissed a Girl become the number one song in multiple countries powering sales for her album One of the Boys (2008). Hot N Cold, Perry's lively and sharply-tongued album that included the second single that became a hit, also proved popular. The album that Perry wrote herself sold more than three million copies.
